Weird Sculptures for Sale

I've been seeing the coolest sculptures and figurines lately.

These weird things are from Double Parlour, an Etsy shop online.

And these marionettes and other weirdness are from an artist named Scott Radke. Upon perusing his work I thought it looked quite a bit similar to something Tim Burton would dream up so it was no surprise when I saw on his blog that he'd been asked to lend some of his creations to the new Alice in Wonderland movie. It also wouldn't surprise me if Mom had ordered a set of these to pass of as Christmas decorations next year (that's supposed to be a compliment).

This is the recently restored 1903 short film of Alice in Wonderland. I'm pretty sure it was the very first Alice in Wonderland film ever made. By that time cinema had only been around for 8 years. I love the title sequence in the beginning.

I'm back at the office and ready to not work! You know, the Danes generally don't work more than 37 hours a week. In fact, I overheard a conversation in which a lady was on the verge of crying because her job has scheduled her 40 hours. 40 hours! I think once I worked that in a day!

Anyways, I figure a good way to start back up the blog action would be a picture update. Fun for me at least.

My first car was a 1968 Ford Torino similar to this body style. It was sort of a bronzy brown with a black top and black racing stripes:

This idea isn't exactly new, but I haven't exactly seen it executed this well either. This guy, Kutiman, edits and mixes youtube videos to make his own music. His site is pretty cool, too. It just looks like a remixed youtube page. If you can, try watching this clip until the singing starts in and if ya can't, skip ahead. It's impressive.

Yesterday was a good day. My friend Lauren is in want of a big antique mirror. I am a lover of all things “too good to be thrown out”. We went to a huge shop uptown called Demolition Depot. Oh my good lord, this place was heaven on earth: 10ft tall Joseph statues, retired subway tiles, 19th century stained glass windows, church pews and the like. Everything was way out of our price range, but the place was cluttered with inspiration. It was kind of cool how it worked, too. Everything was marked with a number. You carry around a clipboard and take note of what you’re interested in. After you spent the day wandering through all four floors and the humongous back garden you go to the computer and search for what you’ve marked down (which for me would have been everything, including the not-for-sale cute cats running around). Since I’m not a millionaire and neither is Lauren, we jotted stuff down so we could see who could guess closer to how overpriced each item was. It was the best way to spend a rainy Sunday in NYC if you ask me. I specifically took pictures with this blog in mind. Please forgive all the blurs, I desperately need to buy another point-and-shoot camera.

Even if it only utilizes the red/blue technology, it's still cool; except for the fact that most everyday people don't have an extra pair of these specs just lying around.
