I knew I would be a happier person if I ate lard regularly! And if we ever get a heads-up that the world will be ending within the year, I'm definitely going to start smoking again. Smoking is, sadly, just as fun as so many of the other things in the world that can kill us. *sigh*
I'm from the rural South, so I do remember when lard was regularly consumed. And to show how poor we were, my sister and I would use the lids from lard buckets as frisbees. Dangerous!
I had a friend once who went through some kind of program to quit smoking. She said half way through, she knew it was going to work, but she also knew life was never going to be as much fun.
